So simple things like fire and melee can take 3-4 stages of math.<br /><br />Overall, I think it's unnecessary to do so, and largely a failure of the game designer to streamline, especially if I have to take a calculator to the resolution.<br /><br />Aside from this, I also recommend this book since it is a "Wargamers Guide" to the ECW, not just a set of rules, and should be of assistance to anyone gaming in this period regardless of how they feel about the mechanics.<br /><br />I bought my set years ago, and am still using them for ideas altho I wouldn't actually play them, personally.
